The first results of the transformation were quite significant, with Salesforce, airlines new CRM system, and internal integrations a “search & book” process has been streamlined, providing the airline’s contact centre with visibility of each passengers interaction with the airline and enabling agents to provide instant support.

MuleSoft was used to empower the Lightning Connect approach offered by Salesforce through virtue of exposing an OData API on top of the backend system of record. And because this was hosted on CloudHub initially the customer was able to do this in a very quick time frame, while the on-premise teams could put on-premise connectivity in place in parallel. This meant increased productivity as the Salesforce teams configuration activities were not blocked and then the transition to on-premise data-source once ready was seamless.

The MuleSoft powered solution was built to make it possible to leverage the customer information maintained in Salesforce without connecting each backend system directly to Salesforce.

By adopting an API-led model, systems of record remain decoupled, and any exotic protocols, data-transformation or complex business logic is remains encapsulated, so each mule app acts as an anti-corruption layer, minimising any pollution of the single view of the customer data model maintained within Salesforce.

Through MuleSoft, downstream back-office systems are effectively subscribed to the data change events, which could be running on the cloud or the data-centre where those IT systems are located.
